Recreation Requirements

Group leaders, please note that all recreational requests need to be made at least two weeks in advance through your event coordinator. Last minute requests may be accommodated (but are not guaranteed). Event leadership must provide a signed Highland Lakes Waiver and Release form prior to checking in.

Clothing Requirements

As stewards of our guest’s safety and representatives of Christ-like examples, we ask all of our guests to dress appropriately for the activities that they will be participating in during their stay. For all non-water, adventure recreation options closed toe shoes are required. We also ask participants to wear modest clothing that is appropriate for climbing, running, stooping and other ranges of motion. For all water-based activities we request modest choices in bathing attire in accordance with the participants’ group standards.

Recreation:

  • Archery Tag – Archery tag is dodge-ball with bows and arrows!
    • If you are not familiar with Archery Tag, it is a fun mix of Dodge Ball and Paintball.
    • Archery tag is amazing! Two teams battle using real bows, and foam tipped arrows, to try and eliminate their opponents. Many game variations are possible, depending on your group size, and the available obstacles.
  • Archery
    • Participants test their skill as they attempt to hit the target from various distances. Campers will be provided with instruction, bow, and arrows.
  • Riflery (bb guns)
    • Participants test their skill as they attempt to hit the target from various distances. Campers will be provided with instruction, bb guns and ammo.
  • Challenge Course
    • Highland Lakes’ challenge course consists of several physical and mental challenges requiring groups to work as a team to accomplish goals.

    • Giant Swing
      • The Giant Swing is one of the most talked about activities on camp. A great personal challenge in which participants get to choose their preferred height to swing from, with the top being a massive 19m.  With a few seconds of free-fall for those that make it all the way up, this is one fast and fun ride not to be missed.
    • Lawn Games
      • Take Yahtzee or Tic Tac Toe to the lawn!
        • Yahtzee uses large wooden dice that you throw on the lawn to complete your Yahtzee board. There are 13 rounds to fill out your Yahtzee card.  This game can be played with as many people as you’d like.
        • Tic Tac Toe – same as the original with larger pieces for the lawn. 2-4 players
      • Board Games
        • Available in the Welcome Center. We have a cabinet full of different board game favorites from LIFE to Mousetrap!
      • Foosball
        • a table game resembling soccer in which the ball is moved by manipulating rods to which small figures of players are attached —called also table soccer.
      • Air hockey
        • Air hockey is a game where 2 players play against each other on a low-friction table. Air hockey requires an air-hockey table, two player-held paddles, and a puck.
      • Geocaching
        • Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.
      • Wet Willie Water Slide
        • 150 ft. giant water slide into the lake
        • Available June –July.
        • Lifeguards are provided and required.
        • Personal flotation devices are provided and required
        • Maximum weight of 250 lbs
      • Jungle Jim
        • Large inflatable playground on the lake and NEW for 2017!
        • Available June-July.
        • This stable pyramid features climbing, sliding, splashing and more! The climbing walls angle inward for convenience and stability while the mesh floor and climbing area creates outrageous interior splash zones. .
        • Lifeguards are provided and required.
        • Personal flotation devices are provided and required
      • Basketball
        • Two basketball courts in outdoor recreation area
        • Guests must return all equipment to the designated storage places. Lost or broken equipment could result in replacement fees.
      • Campfire
        • 4 Locations: Retreat, Dorm, Prayer Ridge, Wild Side
        • Fire is lit 15 minutes prior to scheduled time
        • You may bring items to make s’mores or roast marshmallows
        • Group is responsible for cleaning up and extinguishing their fire
      • Disc Golf
        • If you are not familiar with Disc Golf, it is a fun mix of throwing a Frisbee and golf.
        • The rules are the same as golf each hole has a par (the amount of throws it should take from the tee box to the basket). Our course is a 9 hole par 3, meaning all the holes should take you 3 throws or 27 throws for the course. Each of our holes are color coated at the tee and the basket.
        • Golf has different clubs designed for use at different distances and positions from the hole, and disc golf has different discs. Normally you have at least a driver or midrange, and a putter. We do provide discs but you will need to check them out in advance with our rec department through the hospitality desk.
      • Fishing
        • Registered guests of Highland Lakes may fish from the shore or canoe at our lake.
        • We only allow catch and release.
        • Please bring your own equipment.
      • Hiking Trails
        • We have nine hiking trails that wander through the scenic 400+ acres of Highland Lakes.
        • Each trail has trail markings along the way to keep you on track.

      • Pit Ball
        • PitBall is a fun variant of dodge ball played in a octagon ring. It is located next to tennis court in Recreation Area
        • All players start out in the ring touching the wall. The ball is tossed into the middle and after two bounces is in play. Players must slap-hit the ball, no catching or throwing at each other. If the ball hits a player below the knees, on purpose or by accident, that player is out and must leave the ring. If the ball leaves the ring, the last player to touch it is out. A player may only slap-hit the ball once before it touches another player or the wall. A player may “dribble” against the wall to maneuver. The game is won by the last player in the ring.
      • Swimming Pool
        • Lifeguards are provided and required for Summer Camps (June-July)
        • Outside of June-July you must provide your own Lifeguards
        • Exclusive use is not guaranteed to any group during their stay
      • Volleyball
        • One grass volleyball court near the Wild Side
        • One portable (indoor/outdoor) volleyball court
        • Guests must return all equipment to the designated storage places. Lost or broken equipment could result in replacement fees.
      • Tent Camping
        • If your group is looking for a more natural camping experience we now have several camping sites for tent camping with restroom facilities nearby. Have all the fun of tent camping with the convenience of the Highland Lakes facilities.
        • Bring your own tents and stay for $19 per tent per night.
        • Bathrooms and water supply are available at the Wild Side Bath House or Field Kitchen.
